The opening of the Apple Store on the Upper West Side was quite and event but few who sat in line know what occured the evening before, the outcome of which could have changed the grand opening day schedule had it actually be a real problem
As we passed the Apple Store on Broadway around 9:00pm, we happened upon a friendly follow standing in line already. The young man, with stern resolve, had prepared to live in front of the store for the last hours before its opening 13 hours in the future. Now this reported can somewhat grasp such a challenge, however, in this case it was raining and windy and it wasn't getting any better.
It happened suddenly and without notice, first one then two then three fire trucks rolled on the scene at the Apple Store the night before the grand opening. Firemen jumped from the trucks dawning their jackets, helmets and worse yet their Axes and sledgehammers. Now if you have ever been at the scene of a fire or part of one you know that a fireman with an ax and hammer don't generally use door knobs. I looked at the firemen, I looked at the brand new super shiny glass building. I looked back at the men. I looked again and the glass. I thought Michael Dell must have called this in! Alas, after all this time to think this beautiful building would be smashed by a bunch a firemen in their attempts to save lives. Fortunately, as it turns our the manager was there and the worst was averted.
The fellow that is first in line was known to have received numerous hi-fives as well as a "killer" tee shit. This reporter thinks he made out better with an umbrella and a free cup of Starbucks.
Love live the shrine of Apple on Broadway, or it is an airplane hanger. What ever it is, it is in my hood and it is good.
