The City of New York and the developers of Essex Crossing have just opened the affordable housing lottery for 121 apartments at 180 Broome St.

The 25-story building will include a total of 263 apartments. This is the last major affordable housing lottery that will occur  as part of the mega-project in the former Seward Park Urban Renewal Area (SPURA).

To be eligible for the affordable units, households must earn between 40% and 165% of Area Median Income (AMI). Residents of Community District 3 receive a preference for half of the affordable apartments. Former site tenants of the urban renewal area receive an additional preference.

The building includes studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments. At 40% of AMI, there are 10 units available, ranging from $562.month to $843/month. There are 43 apartments available at monthly rents between $896 and $1339.  Another 68 apartments available at monthly rents ranging between $1520 and $3770.

There will be a community information session to explain how the lottery works Monday, Feb. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Seward Park High School.
