Snapchat User Seeking Nude Photos Threatens HS Girls: Police

An anonymous Snapchat user asked several Long Island high school girls to send over nude photos — and threatened to retaliate if they didn’t, police said.

Several girls who attend Connetquot High School in Bohemia have received anonymous requests for nude photos via Snapchat, Suffolk County police confirmed to News 4.

In a letter addressed to the Connetquot community, the Superintendent of Schools, Lynda Adams, warned parents about the threats.

“Acting anonymously, it has been reported that the account user attempts to contact individuals, encourages them to send pictures of themselves unclothed and threatens to retaliate if that person does not cooperate,” she wrote, adding that Suffolk County police are investigating the incidents.

“As this matter is extremely concerning, I encourage you to take this opportunity to once again have conversations with your child(ren) about the safe and appropriate use of technology,” she said.

“If contacted by a stranger online — using Snapchat or any other platform — they should immediately notify an adult and be reminded that personal information should only be shared with trusted family/friends.”

“The district takes the matter of student safety very seriously,” she added. “Anyone with information about this topic is encouraged to report it to their child’s school or the SCPD.”

It wasn’t immediately clear how many students had been contacted by the anonymous Snapchat user.

News 4 has reached out to police and school officials for additional information.

Anyone who has received a message like the ones described can report it to SCDAphotoextortion@suffolkcountyny.gov, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.
