This is What’s Happening at Community Board 3 in March

Don’t look now, but March is upon us. So here’s a first look at what’s coming up at Community Board 3 in the month ahead.

–On Wednesday., March 4, the economic development committee meets to hear about the Lower East Side Partnership’s latest plans to expand the boundaries of the local business improvement district. They will also present preliminary findings from an East Village district needs assessment.

–On Thursday, March 5, the education and human services committee will resume discussions about a potential deadline extension for building a new public school at Essex Crossing.

–On Tuesday, March 10, the transportation committee will hear a proposal from the city for  a “high capacity bike pilot project and potential streetscape upgrades” on Broome Street between Allen and Orchard streets. Also, city traffic planners will continue to talk about doing something to alleviate the traffic bottleneck at Grand and Clinton streets.

–On Thursday, March 12, the parks committee will consider a request for support from the LES Ecology Center, which wants to remain in place in East River Park as long as construction of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project allows. There will also be a presentation from the Parks Department regarding the renovation of the field house at Tompkins Square Park.

–And on Wednesday, March 18, the land use committee will hear an update from community groups hoping to rezone much of the Lower East Side waterfront area.
