Today is the 108th commemoration of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. A ceremony will take place at the corner of Washington Place and Greene Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  And, as usual, people will fan out all over downtown to remember the victims by chalking in front of their former homes.

The tragic blaze on March 25, 1911 took the live of 146 factory workers, mostly women from the Lower East Side. It also touched off a nationwide movement for worker rights.
