25-Year-Old Woman Riding Bicycle Killed by Gas Truck in NYC

25-Year-Old Woman Riding Bicycle Killed by Gas Truck in NYC

A gas tank truck hit and killed a woman riding a bike in Brooklyn late Thursday, police said.

A 25-year-old woman was pedaling east on her bicycle near Broadway and Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg where the tractor-trailer going the same direction struck her, ran her over and kept going around 11:40 p.m., according to the NYPD. Police added that the driver of the tanker may not have been aware that they hit the woman.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. She had injuries all over her body, police said.

Video from the scene shows a heavy emergency response as authorities investigate underneath elevated train tracks.

There was an MTA bus parked at the crime scene, however, sources say it was not involved in the hit-and-run. Security cameras on the bus may have captured footage of the deadly collision.

Police will also be searching for surveillance video of local businesses who may have captured the incident.

Residents in the area are shocked by what occurred saying the area has a lot of traffic.

“A lot of trucks. I don’t think it’s speeding, I think it is just so congested and everyone is just trying to get from point A to point B,” Williamsburg resident Megan Sullivan said.

Felicia Woods, another Williamsburg resident, said that the neighborhood has seen an increase in traffic.

Police are still searching for the tanker and the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
