Human Bones Found Behind NY Townhouse Identified; 2 Arrested

Two men were arrested after a body was found in a wooded area behind a townhouse complex on Staten Island Wednesday, police say.

Troy Williams, 33, and Steven Mazzelli, 27, both of Staten Island, were arrested and charge with murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon early Thursday morning, the NYPD said.

The human remains were determined to those of 50-year-old Mandel Harvey of Staten Island, police said.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police began combing through the wooded path near Arthur Kill Road and Ilyssa Way in the Arden Heights section of the borough Wednesday afternoon after getting “a tip that aided officers in locating remains,” officials said. They soon found the human bones.

“Creepy,” said neighbor Pablo Perez of Arden Heights. “It’s super close to the house, in the summertime we are back there.”

Ehmed Awwad said he saw investigators swarming the area when he went out to get his mail.

“I saw people in the white uniforms to go search the woods,” he said. “They just said it was an ongoing investigation.”
