1. 12 Killed, Including Sergeant, in Calif. Bar Shooting

A man fired a gun at a bar in a city in Ventura County on Wednesday night, leaving 11 college night revelers dead and fatally wounding a sheriff’s sergeant who responded to the emergency before the gunman was reported dead.

The incident happened during a college night at 11:15 p.m. at the Borderline Bar & Grill at 99 Rolling Oaks Drive in Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles west of Los Angeles, said Capt. Garo Karedjian, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said his agency received multiple calls of shots being fired at the bar.

2. Three-Day Smorgasburg Food Festival Heads to WTC Oculus Plaza

A three-day open-air food festival and community block party are heading to WTC Oculus Plaza in Lower Manhattan.

The festivities will start Thursday and run through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. thanks to a partnership between the Port Authority and Smorgasburg, the largest outdoor weekly food market in the country.

A block party, complete with music, a beer garden and family-friendly activities, is set to kick off the event. Meanwhile, on Friday and Saturday, Smorgasburg will operate a curated version of its food market with about 20 vendors at the location.

3. Your Favorite Insta-Famous Pet Could Be Making More Than You

Your favorite Insta-famous pet? Their posts could be making more than your salary. 

New York City pet manager Lonie Edwards told VOX that some of her most famous pups can fetch up to $15,000 per post from brands and all they have to do is look cute. 

She also shared some tips to make your dog or cat an influencer.
