Police ID Man Who Died After Falling Through Ice in Old Lyme

One man is dead and another is hospitalized after falling through the ice on Rogers Lake in Old Lyme on Saturday afternoon.

According to state police, Lawrence Buhl, 61, of North Haven, and Harry Jewett, 59, of Old Lyme, were skating on the ice when the ice gave way and both men fell though.

A neighbor heard screams and called 911.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene and found Buhl in the water, clinging to the edge of the broken ice. He was approximately 30 yards from shore in 25 feet of water.

Buhl suffered hypothermia and was transported to the hospital. He is in stable condition.

Dive teams recovered the Jewett’s body over an hour later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
