Sinkhole Swallows Back of Bus on Long Island

Sinkhole Swallows Back of Bus on Long Island

A public transit bus on Long Island got stuck in a massive sinkhole while traveling over a flooded road, briefly trapping two passengers and the driver on board as the back of the bus continued to sink into the hole, officials said.

The Suffolk County executive’s office said the back wheels of a Suffolk Transit bus fell into the sinkhole on Old Town Road in Coram. Photos from the scene shows the back wheels of the bus lodged underneath the breaking pavement, and the front of the bus tipping upward.

The sinkhole came from a water main break in the area, officials said. Firefighters responded and rescued the people on the bus. No one was hurt.
